Avon, Colorado lit up this weekend with friends from far and near as Winter Wonder Grass hit Nottingham Park. I never could have guessed this Beaver Creek ski town could actually become a festival haven, complete with bluegrass fans from all over!
Greensky Bluegrass started pickin’ strings on the Wondergrass Stage Friday night, as the sun set and FestiPeople came off the mountain to get their legs movin’ and groovin’. Founded in Kalamazoo, Michigan, Greensky Bluegrass features Dave Bruzza, Paul Hoffman, Michael Bont, Anders Beck, and Mike Devol. Highlights included their closing with Sam Bush and Drew Emmitt from Leftover Salmon.
Between headliners, smaller bands took the stage in Beer Hall tents, named Jamboree Stage and Pickin’ Perch Stage. I checked out an incredible North Lake Tahoe, California band called Dead Winter Carpenters.
Leftover Salmon took the mainstage next, and from slow beats to uptempo jammed out drum solos, my feet never stopped moving! And holy cow do I love that violin! Formed in Boulder, Colorado, Leftover Salmon brings bluegrass and jam together while featuring incredible artists including Vince Herman, Drew Emmitt, Greg Garrison, Jose Martinez, and Andy Thorn. Playing some of my favorites including Macaroni Cheese, Leftover Salmon brought some of their classic Telluride jams to Winter Wonder Grass!
