Colorado is blessed with an undeniably incredible music scene…we all know that. A few years there left me spoiled with music all year round. From The Other Side (which I refer to as “the lower decks of the Titanic”, you know, where Leo showed her how to actually dance!) to the majestic stage of Red Rocks, Colorado rules live music. However, just relocating to the Bay Area in October, I’ve found myself surrounded by another out-of-this-world music mecca.
One of my favorite discoveries since I’ve been out here, an already well-known Bay Area favorite, Midnight North. This five piece, hybrid blend of blues, rock and americana has been racking up fans all over the country in recent years. Now, they’re about to launch of a summer tour – starting with you, Colorado!
Midnight North has made a name for themselves, opening for bands such as Nicki Bluhm & the Gramblers, The Infamous Stringdusters, The Mother Hips, Jackie Greene, and in just a few weeks Phil Lesh & Friends with Mike Gordon and a whole mess of amazing musicians. Bob Weir and Phil have sat in on their sets on more than a few occasions, further instilling that this band is not one to miss. Colorado, believe me, you are in for a damn good treat in the Rockies. For those of you not a mile high or more (literally, maybe, and figuratively) they have an entire east coast tour this summer as well.
Between the incredibly beautiful and blended three and four part harmonies, you have five amazing musicians, each bringing a unique blend of blues, rock, and California honky-tonk inspired cosmic country. Paving his own name on his musical journey, Grahame Lesh, son of Grateful Dead bassist, Phil Lesh, brings beautiful singing, songwriting, and intricate guitar work to the group. Powerful female presence in the band, Elliott Peck, brings memorable songwriting and soulful vocals with a memorable light twang all while playing keyboards, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar. Also a notably strong singer, Alex Jordan brings soaring melodic guitar playing as well as the mighty sound of, what has been called the most important instrument in history, the Hammond B3 organ. Bassist Connor O’Sullivan adds intricate basslines with a deep pocket, ripe for dancing along with the grooving drum work of Alex Koford.
