July 25-28, 2013
Westminster, SC: I love South Carolina! Beautiful sunsets, lovely weather, and the best in Southern Hospitality!
Avalon: An absolutely beautiful and perfect venue! As you enter the venue, you can park in different fields, none of them a very far walk away. Some people chose to camp in those fields, while most camped in the woods above the main venue. There were 4 wonderful stages, a river, waterfall, and lake, an entire village dedicated to installations and learning, and wonderful vendors! You could walk to anywhere in the venue within 5-10 minutes. Everything you could need and more!
Only $120! Incredible price for an epic weekend!
Camping is amazing at Gratifly! There is wooded camping, which I loved for the shade and laying in my hammock. There was plenty of field camping as well and even options like Quiet Camping and Group Camping. You were allowed to camp anywhere you liked, and I love that freedom! I love tent only camping because it creates a wonderful community, and the walk to my car only took about 5-10 minutes. Some people ended up on some hills, but they didn’t seem to mind too much!
The only option is to drive there, carpooling is encouraged with RidePost!
Other than a couple of police walk-throughs in which I heard the police commented, “these people are too nice we have to leave!” there were no police to be seen this weekend. I heard a couple of stories about the way in, but once you got into the venue you were able to feel completely safe, and I love that! There was some security but they were meant for safety more than anything and I didn’t hear about bag or car checks the whole weekend. Complete freedom—and there were no issues! How perfect is that? A true self serving community.
Gratiflyers were amazing! So much love, hugs, respect, and learning! Everyone wanted to do their part and help co-create the amazing community at Gratifly!
South Carolina weather can be humid, but with the river to cool off the heat was not a problem all weekend! There were a couple of small rain showers but nothing major. It was nearly perfect!
HANDLING OF THE WEATHER:
Gratifly had plenty of water to help with the heat, not to mention there was a river to swim in which really helped during the peak of the day! Inside of the woods the heat never got too bad at all with the shade, and there were plenty of trees all over the rest of the venue too. Gratifly didn’t have to do much to handle the weather because we were blessed with such wonderful conditions and such an incredible venue.
Gratifly had a very psychedelic and electronic lineup that was a ton of fun to get down to all weekend! Papadosio, The Werks, and Emancipator headlined and absolutely killed it! Other highlights included Rising Appalacia, The Human Experience, Empire Strikes Brass, Dopapod, Random Rab, and SO MUCH MORE!
There wasn’t much music during the day, it held off in hopes that you would go to workshops, learn, and explore! When music finally started around 4:30pm every day it was always incredible although normally it was DJs with a few other bands thrown in.
Padadosio, The Werks, and Dopapod were the highlights for me!
LATE NIGHT SHOWS:
Music went well into the night for sunrise DJ sets!
There were 4 stages at Gratifly:
- Area 51 – Gratitude Stage: The main stage, with a great light show, plenty of room to dance, and amazing sound quality!
Lost in Sound – Synergy Stage: Featuring lots of small bands and electronic music, this stage had tons of dancing space and great sound quality!
Tribal Council Stage – Sunrise stage: Plenty of workshops and speakers throughout the day, and amazing music all the way until the sun comes up! So beautiful!
- Forest Stage: Perfect to wake up to in the morning! Filled with lots of tribal sounds!
EVERYTHING at Gratifly is a community event. Everything is about learning and coming together. Gratifly had endless workshops for everyone to enjoy together. Gratifly’s entire intention related to community building.
Past Gratifly’s music options, the festival had endless options to attract your attention:
- The Sonic Forest
- Installation Village
- Nature’s Nest
- Sol Purpose Temple
- Tribal Council Dome
- The waterfall and the woods were nature’s incredible backdrop
- Live Artists
- Visionary Art Gallery
- Visionary Lab
- The stages were decorated for pure beauty!
- The Infusion Tea Lounge
- Healing Dome
- Flame throwers
- Dancers & hoopers
So freakin’ good!
There were some amazing local vendors as well as some of my favorite from the festival circuit including Shakedown Goods!
Gratifly was filled with lots of creative yoga options all day long, including some acro yoga!
Gratifly was about learning just as much as the music – there were some incredible healing and hooping workshops!
HELP THE ENVIRONMENT:
Everyone was very self sufficient, I didn’t see trash on the grounds all weekend!
